Help me with my computer please!
Main Post:
I need help with figuring out why my computer is so slow. We are talking about 10 - 15 minutes to boot and begin. Then it takes 5-10 minutes to open programs. Essentially it is nearly unusable.
I've taken pictures of the hardware specs, software is shown too plus performance readings from within the task manager.
Could this be from a Norton security protector I use, planned obsolesce with forced operating system updates that make older machines just barely compatible, probably something else as well?
Top Comment: Bad HDD. When usage is pegged at 100% like that when you're mostly idle, I almost always see it as a bad drive. Put in an SSD either way.
My computer has turned evil!
Main Post:
Me: Hello, Mam How can I help?
Lady: My computer has turned evil, i need help!
Me: Wow, ok, what happened?
Lady: Whenever I try to open the app, it says "Demon failed to start". Why is the Demon trying to start in my computer?
Me: Oh no! Mam , is that spelled "Daemon" ?
Lady: let me take a look, yes!
Me: Oh mam, that's not a demon, it's a background process that runs in your computer. we commonly call it Daemon, think its short for Disk And Execution MONitoring.
Nothing to be worried of! Just needs a fresh installation and restart.
Lady: For holy sake, why they named it like that? Could't they do, DAEM or something, they had to pick the 16th century version of Demon.
Top Comment: I read another story decades ago about a Linux screensaver that featured the devil and the techie had to "exorcise" it by picking a different one.
Is my PC done?
Main Post:
So I update windows, and then windows disables my GPU because of an error (Code 43). It's seated, the fans are working, and my PC detects it. So, I decided to updating the drivers. Nothing. I try reinstalling the drivers. Nothing. I try uninstalling the drivers and then reinstalling my GPUs specific driver from the Nvidia site, says it can't install because there isn't a GPU detected.
So I power my PC off and reseat my GPU and now I get absolutely no display, even the one just connected to my motherboard. My PC turns on, fans, LEDs and everything, but it displays nothing. No VGA no HDMI no display ports. I'm genuinely at my wits end trying to figure this out. Is my PC just bricked?

Can you test your graphics card on a different PCI slot?
Has your BIOS been reset so that you have to deactivate your onboard graphics card again?
Nvidia tech support bricked my computer
Main Post:
Long story short, I was having extreme difficulties installing newest driver 572.42 on my machine so I called Nvidia tech support to help. They had me boot my machine into safe mode to install the driver and now my machine is bricked. It doesn’t boot into windows and cannot repair its self. No I did not back up my files. Lesson learned. I hope someone else can learn from this too. Don’t buy Nvidia products. I can assure you I will never buy another Nvidia product as long as I live. If anyone can help, please let me know. Thanks for reading.

Try booting a linux live iso and see if you can backup your files.
Building my PC for the first time for watching movies mostly and casual gaming at 1440p above 100Hz for most games.

As the title suggests, I am planning to do a custom build pc and it is my first time doing so. I have read up on what each of the components that goes into a PC and what it is used for but I am still quite overwhelmed by the number of options out there and how they complement each other.
I have done a bit of research and went through several reviews from other people and have decided on the following setup:

I am not fully sure if I should go ahead with this build and would like to see if there are any recommendations without increasing the budget further. Thanks!

My pc keeps updating to windows 11 without consent
Main Post:
My pc is incapable of running windows 11 as one of my drivers cant run on it, So I have never purposefully downloaded it. But for the 5th time in 2 months it has once again automatically updated to windows 11 and I have to completely reset my pc again because of this. I have gone to gpedit and set my operating system to windows 10 only, made it so it has to ask permission to download updates, even turned off updating all together, and it STILL updates to windows 11. Im so sick of it. How do I prevent this from happening.
Top Comment: Making changes to your system BIOS settings or disk setup can cause you to lose data. Always test your data backups before making changes to your PC. Marvel Rivals Is DAMAGING My PC - Devs Please Fix
Main Post:
Numerous players are trying to load the game only to find out their entire PC crashes after only a few seconds of playtime/movement. This is dangerous by the way, your PC’s ability to crash and shut off completely is an emergency measure for rare once in a while occurrences. If it’s doing this every single time you want to play a game, something bad can seriously happen. And as far as I can tell these issues are only on Marvel Rivals and no other games. The players having these issues have good PCs. Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 4090s (updated the example). Something is seriously wrong with Marvel Rivals and it needs to be addressed before something like permanent damage becomes an effect of people trying to troubleshoot and fix the game themselves.
This is something that’s already been talked about a bit but I feel like it hasn’t been enough. As far as I can tell the devs haven’t announced this being something on their list of things to fix or look at so I want to keep bringing it up so they know this is still an issue that players have been getting SINCE BETA.
Top Comment: Just wanted to hop on this thread to say that I've been having similar problems- game crashes that black screen / crash my ENTIRE pc. I found it hard to believe that it was a game error, so I went through the process of removing, testing, and reassembling nearly all my components, and found that nothing was out of order. I've never seen my computer react this way to any other game, and I've played many other triple A / highly demanding titles this year, all without issue. All this to say that, I can definitely confirm that I and many other players are running into the exact same issue you are, and I do share your worries that permanent hardware damage could occur. Its a shame because I just really want to play the game, but am gonna have to stay off for the time being.
Should I build my PC now or wait for the 50xx GPUs in January 2025?
Main Post:
I’ve been itching to build a new gaming PC and had everything planned around the RTX 4080 Super. I’m upgrading from a 3060, and I was ready to order my parts this week. But then I started seeing leaks about NVIDIA’s 50xx series launching in January 2025, and now I’m stuck wondering if I should wait.
Performance rumors suggest the 50xx series will be a major leap, but part of me wonders if the price will be too steep or if availability will be an issue at launch. I’ve saved up a decent budget for this build, and I even came into some unexpected money recently, which gave me the flexibility to consider higher-end parts like the 4080 Super.
I’m mostly playing at 1440p but would like to future-proof for 4K gaming. I also do some light video editing, so the extra VRAM on the 4080 Super is appealing. That said, if the 50xx cards truly bring groundbreaking improvements, I don’t want to regret jumping the gun.
For those who’ve built PCs before a new generation launch, how did you decide whether to wait or go for the current gen? And if you were in my shoes, would you hold off for the 50xx series or move forward now?
Top Comment:
Build everything except for gpu now, and just use the 3060 to tide you over until January/February.
I absolutely would not buy a 4080 Super before then.

"IT is configuring your computer" notification on macOS.
Main Post:
One of our users on macOS is repeatedly receiving the notification every 60 minutes "IT is configuring your computer" - the device appears as fully compliant otherwise, is there any way I can find the cause of the problem?
There are no conflicting policies, no pending updates and the device appears fully compliant and able to check in via sync.
Top Comment: Are you pushing any app packages? I know that Windows systems produce a similar but less cryptic version of that message when they are getting an app pushed down. If the app install fails for some reason (bad install command, bad package, corrupt target device, etc...), Intune will just keep trying to push it. Which will produce the message over and over again
